Functional Lab Tests

If a wholesome diet alone hasn't worked to alleviate your symptoms, functional lab testing might be your next step.

In functional nutrition, we use these lab tests to gain a more clear picture about the interconnected imbalances leading to your health challenges. It's all connected and we chip away at each piece until the body has the ability put itself back together. Investigate food sensitivities, digestive infections, stress and inflammation. Receive a functional analysis of your blood chemistry markers. Identify your imbalances and personal inflammatory triggers. Prioritize next steps and proper protocols based on clear evidence discovered in these state of the art lab tests.

DIGESTIVE INFECTIONS & MICROBIOME

GI MAP Stool Test

The GI MAP (Gastrointestinal Microbial Assay Plus) is a state of the art, at-home stool test that investigate pathogenic infections and microbiome imbalance in the digestive system.  An at home test kit will be mailed directly to you. You will conduct the stool collection for 1 day in the privacy of your own home and then mail it into the lab for analysis. A healthy digestive system is absolutely essential for optimal health. Digestive infections are often a hidden barrier to achieving your health and wellness goals. When the wrong species of parasites, bacteria and fungus take over the intestinal tract, it can result in a wide range of health problems including gastrointestinal distress, poor digestion, gastrointestinal permeability, allergies, food sensitivities, autoimmune disease, skin disorders, joint pain and arthritis, thyroid and adrenal disease, brain fog, sugar handling imbalances, poor digestion and malnutrition, constipation, diarrhea and gas, depression, anxiety, inflammation and more. If you’ve been struggling with health issues, whether obviously digestive or not, and a wholesome diet alone hasn’t resolved your issues, this test will be incredibly illuminating. Liz Morgan Nutrition will then work with you to design a powerful protocol based on your body’s specific needs and priorities.

FOOD SENSITIVITY BLOOD TEST

Mediator Release Testing (MRT)

The MRT (Mediator Release Test) is a highly accurate food sensitivity test that analyzes 170 foods and additives to determine what foods your body is reacting to. The MRT is a blood test that investigates which foods are causing inflammation for you. It measures the release of mediators (eg: cytokines, histamine, leukotrienes, and prostaglandins) from your white blood cells (neutrophils, monocytes, eosinophils and lymphocytes). When white blood cells release mediators upon contact with certain foods you will experience inflammation, bloating, cramping, painful bumps on the tongue, constipation, diarrhea, exhaustion, brain fog, malabsorption of nutrients, malnourishment, leaky gut, stress and other symptoms which can spiral into serious health problems. Understanding your food sensitivities is essential to any rebalancing protocol and for the body to heal. A blood draw kit will be mailed to you. You will go into a local blood draw facility to have your blood drawn and mail the kit back to the lab the same day.

Blood Sugar Monitoring

Track insulin response & high/low blood sugar

Learn to test your own blood glucose levels upon waking and throughout the day. Blood glucose testing in NOT just for diabetics. Many of us suffer the effects of high blood sugar, blood sugar swings and insulin resistance decades before a diabetes diagnosis. Our strategy for testing will change how you think about your sugar handling systems, your food intake and will be incredibly enlightening as you work to balance your systems and symptoms.

STRESS TESTING

Cortisol & Circadian Rhythm

Stress is the new normal yet it can have serious consequences on our ability to function optimally. If stress has taken a toll on you, it can be helpful to test your adrenal stress hormones to understand your cortisol and DHEA patterns. Stressors that disrupt your adrenal function can include poor quality or too little sleep, poor habits around sleep, chronic inflammation, blood sugar dysregulation, malnourishment, and so much more. This test measures the cortisol awakening response, daily cortisol levels, and DHEA to look at the health of the adrenal gland and the entire system that responds to those stressors. The cortisol and DHEA that we measure are an end-result of a carefully orchestrated stress response involving the HPA axis. We use either a saliva or a urine test to measure hormones flections at specific times during the day. The test will be sent to you for collection in the privacy of your own home. You will then mail the kit directly back to the lab.‚Äč
